2011 Sneak Peaks: A Couple Long Island Restaurants to Look Out for in 2011

LONG ISLAND PRESS Jan. 28, 2011 By Ron Beigel

In June, the Route 110 corridor in Melville will add another category killer of a restaurant to a collection that includes Four Food Studio and Blackstone Steakhouse. You've most likely gotten a glimpse of the high-profile building where Tom Schaudel's next restaurant, Jewel, will be housed. Located at the busy intersection of the LIE and Route 110, it's an arresting sight, all dark glass with a rounded front.

As many as 250 diners will be accommodated within approximately 10,000 square feet of space that includes two private dining rooms, a chef's table and a wine room along with the main dining rooms. The space, designed by Dallago Associates of East Rockaway, will have an elevated bar and a back-lit blue glass floor. Accessible from inside the office building, the restaurant will also have a separate entrance on the north side and a full profile extending the length of the building. Schaudel who also has Coolfish in Syosset and A Mano Osteria and Wine Bar in Mattituck, will offer a brasserie-style menu consisting of small and large plates with what he describes as "a keen eye on seasonal Long Island produce and a comprehensive selection of Long Island's best wine producers as well as the rest of the world." Lunch and dinner will be served with the possibility of "power breakfasts" at some point.
